Touto publikáciou chce autorská dvojica priblížiť vojenskopolitické pozadie, ako sa kreovala spojenecká pomoc pripravovanému povstaniu na čs. území, resp. SNP. Paralelne s tým chce stručne zmapovať a zhodnotiť rozsah a priestorovú operačnú činnosť 15. americkej leteckej armády v hĺbke okupovanej Európy, nad územím Slovenska v r. 1944-45 a zhodnotiť význam činnosti amerického OSS a britského SOE na povstaleckom území. Do publikácie autori zakomponovali dôležité dokumenty k predmetnej téme a stovky autentických dobových fotografií. Publikácia chce vlastne odomknúť a otvoriť dokorán dvere pre edíciu dokumentov. Autori si dobre uvedomujú, že aj slovenská historiografia musí pokladať za svoju povinnosť poskytnúť popri syntetických a monografických dielach aj základné pramenné edície k jednotlivým úsekom národných dejín. Táto úloha vyplýva nielen z potrieb rozvoja historickej vedy na Slovensku, ale aj z požiadavky vyrovnať sa s ostatnými európskymi krajinami, kde mnohozväzkové edovanie prameňov k antifašistickej rezistencii patrilo a patrí k prioritám spracovania dejín 2. svetovej vojny. ***** The main goal of the authors of this publication is to give the reader a kind of closer look at the military-political background of the Allied aid to the uprising in preparation within the Czechoslovak territory, and mainly to the Slovak National Uprising in Slovakia. In parallel, their intention is to examine the scale and the area of operations of the 15th US AAF within the occupied Europe and the Slovak territory in the period of 1944 – 1945 as well as to evaluate the importance of activities of American OSS (Office of Strategic Services) and British SOE (Special Operations Executive) missions within the insurgent territory. The authors included into the publication important documents concerning the fields of research and interests and hundreds of the authentic contemporary photos. The main aim of this publication is to unlock and widely open the doors for the Edition of documents which the authors have collected and prepared for the follow-on publications. The authors are well aware ofthe fact that Slovakian historiography has an obligation to provide not only consistent monographs but also basic editions of sources related to the particular periods of the national history. This task is the logical consequence of the evolution of historiography in Slovakia as well asthe commonly accepted approach to evaluation and research of anti-fascist resistance in many European countries.
