Neurology Textbook EN Book: Neurology Textbook EN
4 stars - 1
At the onset of the 21stcentury, we are seeking to present the subject of human nerve disorders and management in a basic, informative, pregraduate yet attractive, interesting manner. Since new data concerning nerve functions and disorders are advancing rapidly, we have to emphasize general principles together with specific details. Therefore Neurology Textbook is concerned with both basic neurology and special clinical neurology. The texture of basic (common) and special clinical neurology is inovated, reedited and it is specially designed for foreign students studying general medicine at the Jessenius Medical Faculty in Martin Comenius University in Bratislava. The first section contains normal function descriptions, in particular a common clinical disorder features. In the second section, we describe specific clinical diseases as entities with particular etiologies, pathogenetic evolution, management and therapies. Exciting new diagnostic techniques such as CT, MRI, SPECT, PET, MR-spectroscopy, CME- expert diagnostic system evaluating spectral emission as well as the classic electrophysiologic technologies, e.g. EMG, EEG, and evoked potentials afford opportunities to obtain information about body functions, nutrition, blood-circulation, structures and metabolic activities. There is a mistaken opinion that neurology is only an academic exercise in diagnostic procedure, and that treatment is being neglected. This does not correlate with reality. Major advances have been made and are being performed in therapy. Many protocols have been developed, including those that treat bacterial and viral infections, those that suggest better epileptic seizure management, as well as those that improve autoimmune aggression in MS and reduce or resolve new MS attacks of demyelination and improve motion disorders, as well as the well-being of MS patients and their life expectancy. Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), also known as prion diseases, are a group of related but distinct diseases of the nervous system of humans and animals. They cause the central nervous system to degenerate, resulting in the formation of sponge-like holes in the brain. The agent that causes TSEs is believed to be an abnormal form of a protein, known as a prion. Misfolding of protein PrPC is a mechanism producing prions PrPSc . This is responsible for TSEs humans and animals. Recently itwas interpreted as a consequence of slow vires infection, but thanks Prusiner, awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of prions it is surprisingly explained as the consequence of genetically or epigenetically transmitted a degenerative lethal subacute disorder of the brain´s neuropil. Emergent neurology has attained expected results through intense treatment procedures with strong, effective methyl corticoids, antiedematous drugs, thrombolytics, utilizing complete current strategies for the cell-protection and revascularization and/or re-oxidation of the affected brain and spinal cord. Improved treatment and/or care with the cumulative seizure patient has produced a decrease in mortality figures. Acute neurological units and intensive care units of anesthesiology expeditiously diagnose and/ or manage acute comatose conditions in such a manner that the therapeutic windows are substantially shortened for the etiopathogenetic treatment and/or care administration and to attain the optimal outcome results. Somenew chapter, USG, neuro-rehabilitation. Death, Brain death necessitated the progress of a new diagnostic method-USG and the need to restore motor functions, as well as korps-transplant program of a new transplant restorative medicine.
