Sense and Sensibility Rozum a Cit
"The main heroines are sisters, Marianne and Elinor Dashwood, who have also a young sister Margaret and an elder stepbrother John. At the beginning of the story Mr. Dashwood dies and Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters have to move from their home which now has become John´s property. Their budget is shoestring, so that they settle down in a small cottage in the country where Marianne and Elinor experience their first love and disappointment. Marianne is guided especially by her feelings and she blames her elder sister Elinor, who has a more rational view of the world, for being cold and reserved. But finally, she finds out that the sense and sensibility are not inevitably separated matters... Hlavními hrdinkami jsou sestry Mariana a Elinor Dashwoodovy, které mají ještě malou sestru Margaret a staršího nevlastního bratra Johna. Na začátku románu zemře pan Daswood a paní Dashwoodová se i s dcerami musí odstěhovat z rodinného sídla, které připadlo nejstaršímu synovi. S omezenými prostředky se paní Dashwoodová a její dcery usadí v malém venkovském domku, kde Mariana i Elinor prožívají své první lásky i zklamání. Mariana se řídí především svými city a své starší sestře Elinor, která má racionálnější pohled na svět, vyčítá chlad a rezervovanost. Ale nakonec zjistí, že rozum a cit se nemusí vylučovat…

Sense and Sensibility
Sometimes the Dashwood girls do not seem like sisters. Elinor is all calmness and reason, and can be relied upon for practical, common sense opinions. Marianne, on the other hand, is all sensibility, full of passionate and romantic feeling. She has no time for dull common sense - or for middle-aged men of thirty-five, long past the age of marriage. True love can only be felt by the young, of course. And if your heart is broken at the age of seventeen, how can you expect ever to recover from the passionate misery that fills your life, waking and sleeping?

Sense And Sensibility
Sense and Sensibility, the first of Jane Austen's major novels, examines the romantic lives of two very different sisters--one restrained and practical, the other wildly passionate and romantic--forced to balance their emotional needs against the harsh financial realities of the world. After their father's death leaves them impoverished, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood must struggle to win both the happiness and security they deserve. Austen trains her customary sharp eye on the hypocrisy of the age, providing a striking critique of early nineteenth-century society. The world's greatest works of literature are now available in these beautiful keepsake volumes. Bound in real cloth, and featuring gilt edges and ribbon markers, these beautifully produced books are a wonderful way to build a handsome library of classic literature. These are the essential novels that belong in every home. They'll transport readers to imaginary worlds and provide excitement, entertainment, and enlightenment for years to come. All of these novels feature attractive illustrations and have an unequalled period feel that will grace the library, the bedside table or bureau.

Sense and Sensibility
Two sisters of opposing temperaments but who share the pangs of tragic love provide the subjects for Sense and Sensibility. Elinor, practical and conventional, is the epitome of sense; Marianne, emotional and sentimental, the embodiment of sensibilit
y. To each comes the sorrow of unhappy love: Elinor desires a man who is promised to another while Marianne loses her heart to a scoundrel who jilts her. Their mutual suffering brings a closer understanding between the two sisters--and true love fina
lly triumphs when sense gives way to sensibility and sensibility gives way to sense. Now an award-winning movie written by Emma Thompson. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Sense and Sensibility
"Sense and Sensibility" is famously characterised as the story of two Dashwood sisters who embody the conflict between the oppressive nature of 'civilised' society and the human desire for romantic passion. However, there is far more to this story of two daughters made homeless by the death of their father. Elinor, 19, and Marianne, 17, initially project the opposing roles with Elinor cautious and unassuming about romantic matters, while Marianne is wild and passionate when she falls hopelessly in love with the libertine Mr Willoughby. But the lessons in love and life see the two characters develop and change with sense and sensibility needing to be compromised as a matter of survival.Written when Austen was just nineteen, this story has been read as a biographical reflection of her relationship with her own sister Cassandra, with the younger Jane being the victim of 'sensibility.' However, the novel is far more than a simple case of passion versus manners, and depicts the romantic complications of two women made highly vulnerable by the loss of their father and estate. With a raw and intense quality Austen creates a romantic masterpiece on the backdrop of a fragile social context.
