My Brief History
His clarity, wit and determination are evident, his understand and good humour moving' New Scientist
My Brief History recounts Stephen Hawking's improbable journey, from his post-war London boyhood to his years of international acclaim and celebrity. Lavishly illustrated with rarely seen photographs, this concise, witty and candid account introduces readers to a Hawking rarely glimpsed in previous books: the inquisitive schoolboy whose classmates nicknamed him `Einstein'; the jokester who once placed a bet with a colleague over the existence of a black hole; and the young husband and father struggling to gain a foothold in the world of academia.
Writing with characteristic humility and humour, Hawking opens up about the challenges that confronted him following his diagnosis of motor neurone disease aged twenty-one. Tracing his development as a thinker, he explains how the prospect of an early death urged him onwards through numerous intellectual breakthroughs, and talks about the genesis of his masterpiece A Brief History of Time - one of the iconic books of the twentieth century.
Clear-eyed, intimate and wise, My Brief History opens a window for the rest of us into Hawking's personal cosmos.

Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
This is The Sunday Times Bestseller. Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old. In just a fraction of that time, one species among countless others has conquered it. Us. We are the most advanced and most destructive animals ever to have lived. What makes us brilliant? What makes us deadly? What makes us Sapiens? In this bold and provocative book, Yuval Noah Harari explores who we are, how we got here and where we're going. Sapiens is a thrilling account of humankind's extraordinary history - from the Stone Age to the Silicon Age - and our journey from insignificant apes to rulers of the world. "It tackles the biggest questions of history and of the modern world, and it is written in unforgettably vivid language. You will love it!" (Jared Diamond, author of Guns, Germs and Steel).

Lacná kniha Brief History of the Third Reich (-70%)
Beginning in the broken aftermath of the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles that made German recovery almost impossible, Whittock tells not just the account of the men who rose to the fore in the dangerous days of the Weimar republic, circling around the cult of personality generated by Adolf Hitler, but also a convincing and personality-driven overview of how ordinary Germans became seduced by the dreams of a new world order, the Third Reich. The book also gives a fascinating insight into the everyday life in Germany during the Second World War and explores key questions such as how much did the Germans know about the Holocaust and why did the regime eventually fail so disastrously?

Nech sme to navždy my (Čo ak sme to my 2)
Pokračovanie letnej love story Čo ak sme to my od autorov najobľúbenejších romantických príbehov!
Koniec koncov, prvý raz to nevyšlo. Možno áno. Koniec koncov, iskry stále lietajú. Občas to skrátka treba risknúť.

My sme Slovan
My sme Slovan nie je obyčajná športová encyklopédia, ani chronologická správa o storočnej histórii najznámejšieho slovenského hokejového klubu.
Fotoalbum: My sme starí Prešporáci
Knižná novinka "My sme starí Prešporáci" je unikátna publikácia zostavená a vydaná našim občianskym združením obsahuje 21 príbehov zo starej Bratislavy. Každú jej kapitolu tvorí jedno autentické rozprávanie Prešporáčky či Prešporáka, v ktorom približuje dejiny svojej rodiny a svoj vzťah k rodnému mestu. Tieto osobné texty sú doplnené bohatým výberom vzácnych fotografií zo starých albumov danej rodiny a spoločne čitateľom približujú tolerantného ducha viacjazyčného starého Prešporku.
My deti zo stanice Zoo

Ja a My
“Mám malých klientov, ktorí majú vybrané miesto, odkiaľ skočia, aby to bolo naozaj rýchle. Žijem s tým a niekedy mi vlasy dupkom vstávajú.
To bolo vyslobodenie.” — PP —
“Prvé bitky. Tvrdé bitky. Dostal som na hubu. Začal som boxovať, aby som už druhýkrát na hubu nedostal. Baby. Zlín bol ženské mesto. Boli tam ženské fabriky, tam bolo šesť žien na jedného chlapa. Nebolo možné sa tejto téme nijako vyhnúť.” — FG —

Brief History of Living Forever
An audacious novel set in near-future America, from the critically acclaimed author of SPACEMAN OF BOHEMIA.
When Adela discovers she has a terminal illness, her thoughts turn to Tereza, the American-raised daughter she gave up at birth. Leaving behind her moody, grown son, Roman, in their native Czech village, she flies to the United States to find the long-lost daughter who never knew her.
In New York City, Tereza is working as the star researcher for two suspicious biotech moguls hellbent on developing a 'god pill' to extend human life indefinitely. But before Tereza can find a cure for Adela, her mother dies mysteriously.
Narrated from the beyond by Adela, A Brief History of Living Forever is a high-wire act of storytelling. By turns insightful, moving and funny, the novel blends an immigrant mother's heartbreaking journey through the American dream with her children's quest to reclaim her from a country that would erase any record of her existence.
A Brief History of Paris
Paris: city of love, food and fashion.
Paris: the city that played host to major historical and cultural dramas.
Paris: a modern metropolis.
Paris is all of these, all at once, all the time.
There is a unique fusion of past and present in this purposefully grand and well-planned city. The Triumphal Way, which runs straight from the Louvre through the Tuileries Gardens, across the Place de la Concorde - where the guillotine once stood - through the Arc de Triomphe towards the Arche de la Defense and into the modern business district is just one example of the many eras that remain present.
Famously a city for walkers, Paris has echoes of its history at every turn. Wandering through Montmartre, you will discover the birthplace of the energetic cancan at the Moulin Rouge; stroll around Montparnasse and see the haunts of American writer Ernest Hemingway; observe the striking new Opera de la Bastille, which stands in the same place as the notorious prison.
To walk in Paris is to walk in history.
Cecil Jenkins recounts the often turbulent history with due attention to social conditions and cultural development as well as to the political events that shaped the city. It is the colourful story of a city emerging to modernity through repeated conflicts, both internal and regional: a struggle between piety and passion, prince and peasant, against competing countries in Europe.
A Brief History of Motion
Beginning around 3,500 BC with the wheel, and moving through the eras of horsepower, trains and bicycles, Tom Standage puts the rise of the car - and the future of urban transport - into a broader historical context.
Our society has been shaped by the car in innumerable ways, many of which are so familiar that we no longer notice them. Why does red mean stop and green mean go? Why do some countries drive on the left, and some on the right? How did cars, introduced only a little over a century ago, change the way the world was administered, laid out and policed, along with experiences like eating and shopping? And what might travel in a post-car world look like?
As social transformations from ride-sharing to the global pandemic force us to critically re-examine our relationship with personal transportation, A Brief History of Motion is an essential contribution to our understanding of how the modern world came to be.
Placebo My
Scenárista menom Život podrobil lásku Emy a Chrisa rôznym skúškam v podobe nedorozumení, klamstiev a tajomstiev, avšak oni sa nevzdali a konečne si vyslúžili status MY.
Veľké finále knižnej trilógie Placebo preverí hĺbku citov i silu priateľstva, vypýta si poriadnu dávku odvahy a podrobí vzťah dvoch milencov najnáročnejšej skúške zo všetkých.
A Brief History of Equality
The world's leading economist of inequality presents a short but sweeping and surprisingly optimistic history of human progress toward equality despite crises, disasters, and backsliding. A perfect introduction to the ideas developed in his monumental earlier books.
It's easy to be pessimistic about inequality. We know it has increased dramatically in many parts of the world over the past two generations. No one has done more to reveal the problem than Thomas Piketty. Now, in this surprising and powerful new work, Piketty reminds us that the grand sweep of history gives us reasons to be optimistic. Over the centuries, he shows, we have been moving toward greater equality.
Piketty guides us with elegance and concision through the great movements that have made the modern world for better and worse: the growth of capitalism, revolutions, imperialism, slavery, wars, and the building of the welfare state. It's a history of violence and social struggle, punctuated by regression and disaster. But through it all, Piketty shows, human societies have moved fitfully toward a more just distribution of income and assets, a reduction of racial and gender inequalities, and greater access to health care, education, and the rights of citizenship. Our rough march forward is political and ideological, an endless fight against injustice. To keep moving, Piketty argues, we need to learn and commit to what works, to institutional, legal, social, fiscal, and educational systems that can make equality a lasting reality. At the same time, we need to resist historical amnesia and the temptations of cultural separatism and intellectual compartmentalization. At stake is the quality of life for billions of people. We know we can do better, Piketty concludes. The past shows us how. The future is up to us.

Ideš do toho?
My verzus vy
Kniha Fredrika Backamana My verzus vy, voľné pokračovanie Medveďoviec, ponúka pôsobivý opis pohnutých ľudských osudov a vzťahov v malom meste hlboko v lesoch.
