The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air
"A dark jewel of a book . . . intoxicating" - Leigh Bardugo, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Six of Crows
Nominated for the CILIP CARNEGIE MEDAL 2019
Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
One terrible morning, Jude and her sisters see their parents murdered in front of them. The terrifying assassin abducts all three girls to the world of Faerie, where Jude is installed in the royal court but mocked and tormented by the Faerie royalty for being mortal.
As Jude grows older, she realises that she will need to take part in the dangerous deceptions of the fey to ever truly belong.
But the stairway to power is fraught with shadows and betrayal. And looming over all is the infuriating, arrogant and charismatic Prince Cardan . . .
Dramatic and thrilling fantasy blends seamlessly with enthralling storytelling to create a fully realised and seductive world, brimful of magic and romance.
The Wicked King The Folk of the Air 2
I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear.

But the new High King does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her, even as his fascination with her remains undimmed. Meanwhile, a traitor in the court is scheming against her. Jude must fight for her life and the lives of those she loves, all while battling her own complicated feelings for Cardan. Now a year and a day seems like no time at all . . .

The Rise of Central Banks
A bold history of the rise of central banks, showing how institutions designed to steady the ship of global finance have instead become as destabilizing as they are dominant.
While central banks have gained remarkable influence over the past fifty years, promising more stability, global finance has gone from crisis to crisis. How do we explain this development? Drawing on original sources ignored in previous research, The Rise of Central Banks offers a groundbreaking account of the origins and consequences of central banks’ increasing clout over economic policy.
Many commentators argue that ideas drove change, indicating a shift in the 1970s from Keynesianism to monetarism, concerned with controlling inflation. Others point to the stagflation crises, which put capitalists and workers at loggerheads. Capitalists won, the story goes, then pushed deregulation and disinflation by redistributing power from elected governments to markets and central banks. Both approaches are helpful, but they share a weakness. Abstracting from the evolving practices of central banking, they provide inaccurate accounts of recent policy changes and fail to explain how we arrived at the current era of easy money and excessive finance.
By comparing developments in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Switzerland, Leon Wansleben finds that central bankers’ own policy innovations were an important ingredient of change. These innovations allowed central bankers to use privileged relationships with expanding financial markets to govern the economy. But by relying on markets, central banks fostered excessive credit growth and cultivated an unsustainable version of capitalism. Through extensive archival work and numerous interviews, Wansleben sheds new light on the agency of bureaucrats and calls upon society and elected leaders to direct these actors’ efforts to more progressive goals.
Egypt and Austria IX: Perception of the Orient in Central Europe (1800–1918). Proceedings of the Symposium held at Betliar, Slovakia (October 21st to 24th, 2013)
Cestovali do Egypta, Sudánu či Palestíny a písali z ciest reportáže a cestopisy. Nadšenie pre starý Egypt viedlo až k egyptománii - západné elity začali zbierať faraónske pamiatky a napodobovať staroegyptské motívy. Dnešné stredoeurópske krajiny, či ich časti, patrili v 19. storočí do imperiálneho Rakúska (Rakúsko-Uhorska). To malo vo východnom Stredomorí svoje záujmy a susedilo s Osmanskou ríšou.

Na konci cesty - Krematórium v Bratislave - At the End of the Road The Bratislava Crematorium
Text Matúša Dullu v slovenčine a angličtine sprevádzajú umelecké fotografie Olje Triašky Stefanović. Snímky citlivo zachytávajú premeny krematória a prostredia, v ktorom sa nachádza, počas jednotlivých ročných období. Publikácia vychádza pri príležitosti päťdesiateho výročia vzniku prvého slovenského krematória.

Her account illuminates the challenges of navigating the halls of power while trying to put one's ideals into practice (and raise two young children along the way), and it shows how - even in the face of daunting challenges - each of us can make a difference.

1928, Paris

As he grows into a young man, falling in love and taking classes at the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris, he can almost forget the terrors of his past, or the promise he has vowed to keep. But across Europe an evil is rising, and no-one's safety is certain. In his heart, he knows the time will come where he must flee once more.
2008, the Aegean
The seven sisters are gathered together for the first time, on board the Titan to say a final goodbye to the enigmatic father they loved so dearly.
To the surprise of everyone, it is the missing sister who Pa Salt has chosen to entrust with the clue to their pasts. But for every truth revealed, another question emerges. The sisters must confront the idea that their adored father was someone they barely knew. And even more shockingly: that these long-buried secrets may still have consequences for them today.

Ladislav Mednyánszky, K 100. výročiu úmrtia umelca/ The 100th anniversary of artist’s death
